During the winter of 2004-2005 northern Minnesota experienced an amazing influx or northern owls. At least 5,000 were likely wintering in the state. One group saw over 200 different Great Gray Owls in a single day! The Sax-Zim, MN Christmas Bird Count recorded 60 Great Grays! [Winter 2004-2005; Garthus Road, Carlton County, northern Minnesota]
